Healthy Eating

Diet and environment affect our well-being, both psychologically and physically. The right kind of diet must be able to provide the necessary vitamins and minerals and many unknown factors for the body to function and repair itself. So the diet must be a balanced one, in order to provide the necessary factors. It is important to have the correct pattern of eating habits and to avoid bad ones. This is because your body must be given every chance to function in harmony with your eating habits. The best way to do this is to get rid of your bad habits. These may include:

  • Eating too fast
  • Drinking too fast
  • Soft drinks and cordials
  • Not eating breakfast
  • Eating in front of TV or whilst reading
  • Not chewing sufficiently
  • Tasting food while cooking
  • Having large serves of food on a dinner plate
  • Nibbling between meals
  • Using excessive salt
  • Cakes, biscuits (sweet and dry), pastries, etc.
  • Sweets, lollies, ice-cream, chocolate, etc.
  • Eating before sleeping
  • Alcohol
  • Thickened soups, gravies, custards, etc.
  • Tinned and pre-packaged foods
  • Missing meals


The good eating habits include:

  • Eat slowly
  • Drink slowly and not during meals
  • Avoid soft drinks, cordials and tinned food
  • Eat three proper meals
  • Avoid salt
  • Avoid worrying about wastage
  • Avoid sugar, cakes, biscuits and pastries
  • Avoid taking meals just before sleeping or exercising
  • Avoid alcohol
